Professor Liwei Zhang

Chief Physician of Neurosurgery Department, Doctoral Surpervisor of Capital Medical University, Tsinghua University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, State Council Expert for Special Allowance, Outstanding Mid-Aged Expert of the Ministry of Public Health. He is the vice-president and member of the Party committee of Beijing Tiantan Hospital Capital Medical University. He is the chairman of Chinese Congress of Neurological Surgeons of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and several other professional society organizations. He also acts as committee member or standing committee member of World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and several other international professional society organizations. He undertook the subjects of National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the Twelfth Five-year Plan Period and other national, provincial and ministerial subjects, covering a total research fund of more than 21 millon RMB. He has devoted himself to the Chinese neurosurgery development for more than 33 years. He has made great contributions for the research and clinical application of the key techniques for diagnosis and treatment of skull-base and brainstem tumors. He has led to foundation the platform of National Brain Tumor Registry of China and the collaborative research network of brain tumor. He has made great efforts and got great breakthroughs in the basic research of brainstem glioma worldwide. As the first author (or corresponding author) or coauthor, he has published more 200 scientific research papers in international well-known academic journals, such as Nature Genetics and Acta Neuropathologica, etc, with a single-paper-highest influencing factor of 35. As the editor in chief, he has published 7 professional monographs. As the first accomplisher, he has led the team to obtain one National Science and Technology Progress Award of China and 8 scientific and technological awards at the provincial and ministerial level. He has trained more than 30 master’s and doctoral postgraduate students.
