CHAIN Cup – The World’s First Competition between Doctors and Artificial Intelligence in Neuroimaging was held on June 30, 2018 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Twenty-five neuroimaging professionals from around the world formed the "Human Team" and competed with the Artificial Intelligence diagnostic support system, BioMind
TM in neuroimaging diagnosis. BioMind
TM surpassed the doctors with an accuracy rate of about 20%. Although the learning time of BioMind
TM is not long, it learns from Gao Peiyi, Director of Imaging Center of Neuroscience at Beijing Tiantan Hospital. Through systematic study of the MRI images of over ten thousand cases of nervous system-related diseases in Beijing Tiantan Hospital in the recent 10 years, the diagnostic accuracy of meningiomas, gliomas and other common diseases has reached more than 90%, equivalent to a senior doctor's level. After the competition, China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases will continue to improve BioMind
TM results, organise more international and domestic competitions, competing with doctors in the field of neurological disorders nationwide and even globally, to preparation for its clinical application in the future. Professor Yongjun Wang, Deputy Director of China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases and Vice President of Beijing Tiantan Hospital said when BioMind
TM AI technology matures, it will become a learning and training tool for primary doctors, especially those in remote areas. Assisting them in reading, diagnosing and predicting scan images, so that patients with brain diseases can get high-quality and personalized diagnosis and treatment programs at "home". In addition, it can help doctors with the preliminary screening and evaluation, and with doctors making the final judgment, improving work efficiency and avoiding repetitive work. When the suggested diagnosis results are different, it serves as a reminder to doctors to avoid misdiagnosis.
